The Salters Den competition was launched in July to find the most
exciting new business or business idea in Northwich and reward the
winner with a first prize worth £5,000. The competition was run in
partnership with Howard Worth Chartered Accountants and business
advisors, Mosshaselhurst Solicitors, NatWest, and Eric Johnson of
Northwich Ltd.
For the first year of the competition the quantity and
quality of entries was incredibly high and shortlisting the finalists
for the den proved to be a difficult process for all the judges.
The
successful applicants were invited to pitch their business plans and
ideas in the den on Tuesday 17th November at Howard Worth’s offices on
Gadbrook Park.
After much deliberation from the judges a final
decision was reached. The winner of the £2,500 cash prize and financial
and legal mentoring is Codilia Gapare with her business C-Lash.
C-Lash
are false eyelashes for people that have lost their own through
treatments for cancer. They are different to current products on the
market as they do not need to be fixed to any existing lashes.
Codilia
said – “I can’t believe that I have won the competition. I came up
with the idea for my product after finding there was nothing like it on
the market. I hope winning the competition enables me to develop my
business further and raise the profile of my product”.
Chris Smith,
Partner at Howard Worth commented, “Codilia’s presentation in the den
was excellent. Her business idea has been generated through her own
personal experience so her passion and understanding really came across
to all the judges. She is a very worthy winner of the first Salters Den
competition”.
There were also prizes for second and third place.
Second place (6 months legal and accountancy mentoring) was awarded to
Gareth Phoenix with his business Gentlemen’s Practice which sells men’s
accessories online.
Vintage Poultry the creation of Emma Baldwin and
Thomas Woodward was awarded third place with a prize of 3 months legal
and accountancy mentoring. Their business is a home ware range featuring
Emma’s watercolours.
